Chennai Express

Colourful and crazy movie featuring Sharrukh Khan and Deepika Padukone. En route to scatter the ashes of his grandfather at Rameshwaram,  Sharrukh gets involved with Deepika who is the daughter of a local Tamil gangster.  All sorts of ridiculous nonsense ensues, as well as the romance and some rather unnecessary violence. Deepika is fantastic but I found Sharrukh particularly obnoxious in this one, with his use of bizarre voices and facial expressions. There are some very funny moments, and many references to Khan’s previous films. Of course we probably missed a lot of word play as the film satirizes Hindi/Tamil language differences. Lots of great songs including Kashmir Main Tu Kanyakumari  which must be the most colourful song scene in Bollywood history, and the cinematography is excellent. 78/100
